Networks and Remote Working

All our software can be configured to run on standalone computers, or on peer-to-peer or client-server networks. You can also set up the software to allow offline working. In addition, remote working is also possible in one of two ways.

Networking

In a networked environment, the client database can reside on a server (client-server network) or on one of the workstations (peer-to-peer network). Whichever set-up is appropriate for your organisation, any number of computers can access the database at the same time and all can be viewing / updating client records at the same time.

You will need an additional license for each computer accessing the database. (You do not need a license for the computer/server if it is only holding the database.)

Offline Working

For those advisers where there is a need for client data to be taken away from the central database, our software supports 'offline' working. This allows you to copy groups of clients from the central database to a laptop, the laptop can then be used offline while you are away from the office with full functionality.

On return to the office, any updates that you have made to clients on the laptop will be resynchronised back into the central database.

Remote Working

In it's simplest form it is possible for your computer to be accessed while you are remote from your office using industry standard internet-based remote access software such as GoToMyPC or LogMeIn. These facilities may require a small monthly payment directly to these companies.

Wherever you can gain access to the internet, you will be able to gain access to your office computer (it will act as though you are physically sitting in front of it even though you may be thousands of miles away). You can therefore gain access to the client-Assyst software and database.

Note that this will require the central database computer to be switched on whenever you need to perform remote access.

For larger organisations that may have a number of advisers or staff working remotely from the central database / system, remote working can be acheived using Remote Terminal Services, Cytrix, XPUnlimited, etc. All of these software products require license fees to be paid to these companies. Setting up this type of environment requires specific technical skills, so it is therefore best suited to the larger financial services practice. We can advise your technical people on how this set-up can be achieved.
